- 5:00 p.m.: Tree arrives with motorcade/security
- 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.: while tree is being set up for viewing, we will kick off the event with speakers
- 5:30-7:30: the tree will be available for viewing
- 8:00 p.m.: event concludes

As the presenting sponsor of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, we are proud to showcase the iconic tree at our 100-year anniversary celebration as it makes a stop in Lewiston on its journey from the Nez Perce–Clearwater National Forest to the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol!
Enjoy a festive, family-friendly event featuring opportunities to learn about the Lewiston site’s rich history, sign a commemorative banner, take part in activities, and explore food and merchandise from local vendors. Guests will also have the chance to learn more about Idaho’s responsible forestry practices that allow Idaho to share our forests—and forest products—with communities across the globe.

Idaho Forest Group’s Lewiston Mill marks it’s 100th year as a sawmill in 2026 and we look forward to honoring its legacy this October! Come see the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree as part of our community celebration and learn about Lewiston’s long history as a strong community partner, forest steward, and innovative manufacturer!
About the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree
The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, often called “The People’s Tree,” is an annual tradition in which a large tree from a different national forest is selected and transported to Washington, D.C. to stand on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The tradition began in 1964 and celebrates America’s forests, public lands, and communities. Each year, the selected tree travels across the country with community events along the way before being decorated with thousands of handmade ornaments created by local residents, students, and artists from the host state.
This year, Idaho Forest Group is proud to be the presenting sponsor of “The People’s Tree” and help support, along with our partners and other sponsors, the tree’s journey as its harvested from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and makes its way to D.C.! We are honored to share the story of our great forests with America on its 250th birthday.
